Wrong Way Driver Car Chase South of Sioux Falls on I-29

A driver was arrested on multiple charges including DUI and threatening an officer after he led a trooper on a chase going the wrong way south of Sioux Falls on I-29 early Wednesday.

According to the Argus Leader the chase started at about 1 a.m. when a white Lincoln Towncar was spotted traveling north in the southbound lane at mile marker 63, just north of the Tea exit.

The trooper tried to pull the vehicle over, but the driver wouldn’t stop. Spikes were put down at the Tea exit, but the driver, who was alone in the vehicle, saw the spikes and turned around.

The driver eventually did switch to the correct direction of travel and used cross-overs to turn around several times. Ultimately, spikes were successfully used to stop the car at mile marker 66. That was after about 15 miles of driving north twice and south twice.

The driver was arrested on several charges including DUI, aggravated eluding, no drivers license, reckless driving and threatening an officer. After his tires were deflated, the driver called 911 and told the dispatcher that he was going to shoot the officers who were chasing him. The identify the driver has not been released.
