With the current state of the DCEU looking rather grim following the cataclysmic failure of Justice League, we’re all just anxious for more Wonder Woman. The sequel to this year’s solo hit can’t come soon enough, and though the film is a whole two years away, Patty Jenkins is sharing some new details on what to expect.

The filmmaker dropped by Variety‘s Playback podcast a couple weeks back, and her comments about Wonder Woman 2 are starting to make the rounds online today (h/t Collider). Jenkins, who is co-writing the script with David Callahan, told Variety‘s Kristopher Tapley that the sequel will have a similar formula to that of the first as a “enjoyable, fun” movie that culminates in more profound, weighty territory dealing with big issues. “I like the idea of taking somebody on a very solid, great journey but that arrives at a bigger question being answered,” she said. But then Jenkins teased a little more, saying the new film will have a “great love story.”

So it’s like that but because she is Wonder Woman and she’s here now and she’s fully developed, it’s got great fun from the start and great big superhero presence from the start, and is funny and a great love story again and a couple new unbelievable characters who I’m so excited about, who are very different than were in the last movie.

As we know – and uh, spoiler alert for those who haven’t seen Wonder Woman yet – Chris Pine’s Steve Trevor sacrifices himself and dies at the end. But hey, this is Wonder Woman and she’s more that deserving of multiple love interests over her long lifetime. The romantic energy between Gal Gadot and Pine was delightfully humorous in the film, so it will be interesting to see how Jenkins weaves in a new love story the second time around. One big question that will surely be on fans minds is whether or not Warner Bros. will use the opportunity to make their female superhero bisexual.

DC Comics officially confirmed Diana Prince is queer in the comics last year when Wonder Woman writer Greg Rucka revealed the Amazonian has indeed been in love with and had relationships with other women. One fan petition started by GLAAD earlier this year pushed for Warner Bros. to depict Gadot’s superhero as bisexual in the sequel, and Gadot has previously said Diana could potentially be bi in the future. If DC wants to one-up Marvel, they could make Wonder Woman the DCEU’s the first openly LGBTQ superhero, unlike Thor: Ragnarok‘s missed opportunity with Valkyrie. We’ll find out when Wonder Woman 2 hits theaters November 1, 2019.
