The National Weather Service in Sioux Falls has issued WINTER STORM WARNING and BLIZZARD WARNINGS for much of the tri-state area.

Roads are slick, snow is falling, and the wind is gusty.  Snowfall amounts could add up to over 12 inches in some spots.  The heaviest snowfall will likely be in the areas that receive 'Thunder Snow'.

So what is 'Thundersnow'?  According to NWS Meteroroligist Thundersnow is:

"... also known as a winter thunderstorm but with the precipitation being in the form of snow instead of rain. Usually when this occurs snowfall accumulates quite quickly as the snowflakes are larger and the snowfall rate is faster or higher than usual."

Drive carefully!
