With summer vacation season right around the corner, here's another good reason why you and the fam should stay inside your vehicle if you're planning a little venture into a state park filled full of wild animals.

A female visitor at Custer State Park in the Black Hills was injured on Thursday, May 12, 2016 after getting too close to a  buffalo.

I know your first inclination may be to jump out of the car and attempt to take a selfie with whatever cool wild animal you encounter during your trek. But generally, that's never a good idea, unless, your would be picture pal is about the size of your fist.

Officials didn't release the name of the woman that was hurt or the extent of her injuries. Officials did confirm the accident took place along Wildlife Loop Road.

The injured victim was flown to a Rapid City hospital for treatment.

Matt Snyder, Superintendent at Custer State Park, reminds people that buffalo are wild animals and visitors are urged to keep a safe distance.

Park rangers plan to investigate the incident further.
