Who is ‘New Americana’ Singer Halsey?
She's pals with 5SOS, sings on Justin Bieber's new album and toured with Imagine Dragons. Her full-length debut album Badlands came out in August. Her sound is described as art-pop or electropop.
She says she "...will never be anything but honest. I write songs about sex and being sad." You know her breakthrough hit "New Americana." Her name is Halsey.
Born Ashley Frangipane, Halsey grew up in New Jersey playing several interments. Her stage name Halsey comes from the name of a street in Brooklyn where she spent time as a teenager.
Halsey says her style was influenced by her parents who raised her listing to Alanis Morissette, Nirvana, and Tupac.
Halsey is another artist that got her start posting performances on online. In 2014 she put a song called "Ghost" on Soudcloud that got the attention of a record company. Her debut EP Room 93 came out in 2014.
She has kicked of a solo tour and is nominated for Favorite Breakout Artist at the People's Choice Awards.
