Ladies and gentlemen start your snowblowers!

Time to say adios to your lawnmower for a few months and get reacquainted with your snowblower and scoop shovel.

Old man winter is back and the city of Sioux Falls wants to familiarize you with the sidewalk snow removal ordinances again.

The sidewalk snow removal message is actually pretty clear, don't wait! The city expects you to shovel within 48 hours from the end of a weather event.

Residents are to remove snow and ice from their sidewalks. Failure to clear sidewalks will result in citations and additional costs to the property owner.

Don't forget about sidewalk curb ramps on corner lots and other curb cutouts. Property owners are responsible for providing access from the street onto the sidewalk.

Low-income and disabled individuals are entitled to take advantage of "The Scoop it Program." Eligible persons must live within the Sioux Falls city limits, must be elderly or disabled and unable to afford to pay someone to shovel their walks, or have no other means of removing the snow, like a family member, friend, or neighbor that can help out.

Anyone interested in receiving the service must fill out an application form, available by calling 211 or 339-4357.
