What Went Through My Head During The Insane Inflatable 5K

I ran my first 5K last weekend. I use the word ran lightly. It was the Insane Inflatable 5K. This 5K wasn't really competitive or timed, just for fun. For me, it was just whether or not I could do it. And I did. I ran it with my co-worker, Tammy, that you may know from KIKN 100.5, and her husband, Steve.

Here were some of the thoughts that ran through my mind before, during, and after.

As we are waiting for the bullhorn to start the race at 9 AM.

• Oh man, I think I have to go to the bathroom.
• No, it's probably just nervous poops, you'll be fine.
• That first step looks scary.
• Oh, theres the horn. Here goes nothing.

During the first obstacle.

• Oh gees, Tammy was serious about running this thing.
• I guess I'll try to run too.
• Ugh, it's humid today.

Three obstacles in.

• Screw this running thing, I'm walking.
• It's hot.
• I wonder what time it is.
• I've been out here forever.

Three obstacles till the end.

• Ok, I can still see Tammy, I'm not too far behind.
• Seriously, what time is it, I feel like it is almost noon or something.
• This is taking forever.
• I'm sweaty.
• I'm hungry.
• Pizza sounds good.

Coming up on the last obstacle.

• Ok, I should finish strong and run the last part before the finish line.
• When I get to that tree I'm running.
• Oh, the girls behind me started running and are passing me.
• I guess I'll run too.
• I'm so hot!
• Oh, there's Tammy cheering me on, I wonder how long ago she finished.
• I've been out here for-ev-er
• Here we go on the last obstacle! I can do it!

After finishing.

• Oh, good they gave me a banana, I'm hungry.
• This t-shirt is nice.
• I'm sorry that lady had to touch my sweaty head to put my medal on.
• What time is it? I've been out here forever.
• (Check my phone.) It's only been 40 minutes.
• Oh my god, it only took me 40 minutes! Go me!
• What was I so nervous about. That wasn't so bad. Sign me up for the next 5K. (As long as I can walk most of it.)
• I need a shower!
