When I think of comfort foods I think of creamed chicken and biscuits, baked chicken with rice and white gravy, homemade macaroni and cheese and meatloaf - wow, that made me really, really hungry.

The website Thrillist has come up with the the most popular comfort food in each state. I would go on an across-the-country road trip just to try all of these delicious vittles on this list.

North Dakota's favorite is kuchen. Loose meat sandwiches are a staple in Iowa. Minnesotans stuff cheese inside burgers to create the Juicy Lucy. So, what is South Dakota's favorite comfort food according to this list?  Considering South Dakota has nine Indian reservations and designated tribal land areas, more than any other state, this comfort food is the perfect choice. Fry bread tacos are tops in South Dakota, also known as Indian tacos or Navajo fry bread.

Below are a couple of videos to teach you a couple of ways to make fry bread. If you're not too handy in the kitchen, there is a box mix called Woodenknife Fry Bread made in Interior, South Dakota that is an excellent replacement for homemade fry bread and it's available at Hy-Vee.
