Lincoln county has been named the richest county in South Dakota according to the report. The median household income in the country in 2013 was $74,751, compared with the state's median income of $49,495.

And 5.6% of the households in Lincoln county made more than $200,000 in 2013.

The report conducted from 2009-2013 showed that Lincoln county benefits from both a strong job market and good health coverage.

Other factors working in Lincoln county's favor include, low unemployment, it was just 2.9 percent in 2013 and only 5 percent of Lincoln county residents lacked health insurance coverage according to the study.

Both were among the lowest rates nationwide.

Just 4.5 percent of residents lived in poverty over the period of the study. That's less than a third of the comparable national rate.
