‘Tis the season for holiday specials.  Every year the usual suspects make their appearance on our televisions.  Everyone from Charlie Brown to Rudolph make us remember our childhoods and remember the true meaning of Christmas.  However, there is one character that is suspiciously missing from the TV lineup: Garfield.  Am I the only one that remembers ‘A Garfield Christmas Special?’  Where did Garfield go?  I used to love this Christmas special.

The whole gang went to visit Jon Arbuckle’s family out on the farm.  Garfield is just excited to overeat and get presents, but he learns a valuable lesson from Grandma.  She is still grieving the loss of her husband and Garfield realizes that love is more important than presents.  He finds old love letters that Grandma and Grandpa Arbuckle used to exchange and surprises Grandma with them Christmas morning.  That old cat still has a few tricks up his sleeve.  I think the most valuable lesson we learn from the special is said best by Garfield, “Christmas, it’s not the giving, it’s not the getting, it’s the loving. There I said it, now get outta here.”
