Weather Delays Western Avenue Closure South of I-229
The rains have caused a construction delay for a major Sioux Falls intersection. What was to have started on Tuesday May 28, has now been pushed back to Monday Monday, June 3, 2013.
Western Avenue from 57th Street to Interstate 229 will eventually be closed. However, saturated soil and continued threat of rain for this week is pushing the project back 6 days. Construction crews will be completing underground utility upgrades, installing a 54 inch sanitary sewer pipe across Western Avenue, and constructing additional turn lanes at the intersection of 57th Street and Western Avenue. This closure will last for approximately three weeks.
The hope is that traffic will be flowing in all directions at 57th and Western by June 21. During the closure, Western Avenue traffic will be detoured on 57th Street, Minnesota Avenue, and Interstate 229. During construction, traffic will be maintained on 57th Street and Western Avenue south of 57th Street, but traffic delays are expected.
