Have you ever just wanted to move away from it all? You know, get away from the hustle and bustle of the big city life? If you would like to move to a place that doesn't move quite so fast, OnlyInYourState.com has come up with what they consider to be seven of the Best Small Towns in South Dakota to point you in the right direction.

If you want to escape the big city and put your roots down in a town in South Dakota with a smaller population, but a town that's big on pride, OnlyInYourState.com says these towns could be the perfect option to get away from it all.

As a "small town girl" at heart, I'm proud to say that my hometown made the list! Okay, it might not be at the top spot (but pretty close!) it's still number one to me!

  1. Wilmot, South Dakota: With a population of about 500 people, there isn't a whole lot of things to do in this northeastern South Dakota town in Roberts County. Unless you are a bride - I'm told they have one of the best bridal stores around!
  2. Houghton, South Dakota: This is the town where everybody knows your name. Seriously. My hometown in Brown County has a population that varies anywhere from 60 to 150 people. Close to the Sand Lake Refuge, if you want to get away from traffic and any other cities, Houghton is for you. (And you can always stop in and say "Hello" to my mom and dad - who both STILL live on the west end of town!)
  3. Pollock, South Dakota: Located near Lake Oahe and the MIssouri River, this small town of just about 220 people in Campbell County is known for having some of the best South Dakota scenery for north-central South Dakota.
  4. Lemmon, South Dakota: With a population of just over 1,200 people, this small northwest town has been gaining a lot of attention recently because of the Leonardo DiCaprio move "The Revenant". If you enjoy riding horses and are interested in visiting the Petrified Wood Park, Lemmon might be a good place to call home.
  5. Hermosa, South Dakota: Boasting of local restaurants with food that is home made, this town with a population of just under 400 people is located near the Black Hills in Custer County.
  6. Springfield, South Dakota: Explored by Lewis and Clark in 1804, this town in Bon Homme County has a population of just under 2,000 residents. Often called "The Best Kept Secret in South Dakota", Springfield is proud of their school district, many outdoor activities and great job opportunities. If you would like to start a family, retire or just live in a safe community, Springfield is for you.
  7. Scenic, South Dakota: If all you want is a church and maybe a few other buildings that might (or might not be) haunted this small unincorporated community in Pennington County has everything you need. With a population that could range from 10 to maybe 58, this small town was once for sale for an asking price of $799,000. (According to Forbes Magazine).
