SIOUX FALLS - During a Monday morning news conference at Sioux Falls City Hall Walmart announced plans to build two new stores in Sioux Falls.

Walmart officials announced one store will go up at 85th Street and Minnesota Avenue and another will be build at West 60th Street North and North Marion Road. Walmart Market Manager Steve Hanselman says building two stores will better serve the community.

In an interview with KSOO-AM, Sioux Falls Mayor Mike Huether showed his excitement for the new stores.

"Big, big win for the city of Sioux Falls. For the first time in American history you are going to have two super Walmarts opening up within one city at the same time. It is just so thrilling," said Huether.

Huether went on to credit Walmart for seeing the opportunities the city of Sioux Falls presented.

"Walmart truly sees the opportunity here. This town is growing in such a big, big way. Their existing stores are jam packed with shoppers and they realize the opportunity to capture even more and the are going to do that with these two new super Walmarts."

Of course, the mayor was most excited about what the stores mean and the difference they will make in the community.

"I mean it's jobs, it's economic development, it's improved quality and so much more," said Huether.

And of course, he added, it means the north side will finally have a grocery store.
