Volunteer Opportunities through the Helpline Center

Here is this week's volunteer opportunities available through the Helpline Center:

Pancake Days

The Sioux Falls Downtown Lions Club will hold its annual 'Pancake Days' at the Sioux Falls Convention Center on Tuesday April 21 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM, and then again on Wednesday April 22 from 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Volunteers are needed to help bus tables, set tables, assist people who have special needs get their food, clean up the dining area and more. With over 13,000 people attending, and 60,000 pancakes being served, the Lion Club needs you to help make this happen.

Evening Chores at HorsePower

HorsePower is currently seeking volunteers to help with chores on a weekly basis on Wednesday and Thursday evenings at the end of their lesson time. Responsibilities would include cleaning stalls, raking the aisle, sweeping, dusting, and general cleaning in the office area. Chores tend to take approximately 45 minutes. This is a great opportunity for anyone who may not be able to volunteer during lessons, but still would like to get some time around the therapeutic horses.

Earth Day Tree Planting

Celebrate Earth Day with the South Dakota Sierra Club by helping plant over 6 thousand tree seedlings at Good Earth State Park. The trees will be planted in a natural random pattern, so volunteers will get to imitate Mother Nature. Volunteers will dig holes, insert the seedling, and tamp it into the soil. The planting will take place Earth Day Weekend, scheduled for Saturday, April 25, 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Planting will continue throughout the day.

Spirit of Volunteerism Awards Luncheon

The Spirit of Volunteerism Awards luncheon is held annually by the Helpline Center to honor outstanding volunteers in and around the Sioux Falls area. Winners of the Spirit of Volunteerism Awards will be announced in the categories of Youth, Adult, Group and Corporate Humanitarian. In addition, 12 MetaBank Volunteer of the Month award winners will also be recognized during the program. Citi will also be presenting six Sioux Empire high school students with Citi Youth Leadership Award scholarships. Tickets for the luncheon are available by calling 605-274-1400, or by ordering online. RSVP deadline is Friday, April 24.
