Vikings take down Concordia-Moorhead 21-12

MOORHEAD, MN — No. 13-ranked Augustana took down Concordia-Moorhead 21-12 on Saturday evening. The Vikings improve to 3-1 on the season after the defeating of the Cobbers who are ranked 12th in the latest National Wrestling Coaches Association Division III poll.
The Vikings won four of the first five matches to build a cushion for the team and all three ranked Augustana wrestlers came out victorious.
TJ North got the Vikings off on the right foot by shutting out his opponent in a 9-0 and earned four points with a major decision victory in the 125-pound division.
In the 133-pound class, eighth-ranked Jeremiah Peterson continued the Viking dominance with a 9-1 major decision and the lead for the Vikings was now 8-0.
Zach Friederich (141 pounds) lost in a 7-1 decision which brought the Cobbers within five points in the dual at 8-3 in favor of the Vikings.
Proving his fifth-ranked position in the 149-pound class, Nate Herda defeated Kyle DeLuc by a 7-2 decision and bumped the Vikings up to an 11-3 lead.
Shawn Hatlestad edged out his opponent with a 6-5 decision in the 157-pound division and Augsutana had built a 14-3 lead in the first five matches.
Concordia-Moorhead earned wins in the 165 and 174-pound weight classes with Parker Swanson (6-3) and Time Weber (7-3) both falling by decision.
With the margin now narrowed to five, Jeff Nielsen defeated his opponent by a 4-2 decision to get the Vikings back on the winning track, up 17-9.
Ranked fifth in the 197-pound class, Jayd Docken won his ninth match of the year by a 15-6 major decision and secured the Vikings the dual victory with a 21-9 margin over the Cobbers.
In the 285-pound division Brian Schultz was narrowly defeated, 4-3, by Tom Bouressa. The decision victory closed out the team scoring and Augustana walked away with their third victory of the season at 21-12.
The Vikings kick off Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action with a dual against the University of Mary at 2 p.m. Sunday.
