Augustana College

SMITHVILLE, MO – Augustana captured its fourth straight Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Championship shooting a 1279 (326-320-314-319) in the 72-hole tournament. The Vikings fired a 319 in the final round and finished with a 61 stroke lead over Minnesota State who finished second (1340).

The final two rounds were moved from Dacotah Ridge Golf Course in Morton, Minn. to Paradise Pointe Golf Club in Smithville, Mo. due to unplayable conditions.

Allie Ostrander won the individual championship finishing with a 25-over-par 313 (75-80-78-80). This is the second straight season that Augustana has had the individual medalist at the conference championships. Ostrander is the fifth individual to win a women’s golf championship in school history. Leland won in 2011-12, Emily Kvidera won the NSIC Championship in 2009-10, while Carley Roach and Courtney Belanger won the North Central Conference in 2005-06 and 2006-07, respectively.

The Vikings dominated the field, placing four of the top five individuals. Augustana entered the final two rounds of the tournament, which kicked off with 36 holes this past fall, with a 50-stroke lead. The Vikings extended it to 61 in today’s final round.

Leland fired an 81 on Sunday and finished the tournament in second place at 32-over-par 320 (89-76-74-81)

Marisa Toivonen finished in fourth place shooting a 36-over-par 324 (81-86-82-75) saving her best for the final round, turning in a 75 today.

Emily Kvidera fired an 85 in today’s round to finish in fifth place at 38-over-par 326 (83-78-80-85). Jennifer Pederson delivered her best round of the 72-hole championships, shooting an 83 in the final round to finish in a tie for 12th at 53-over-par 341.

Ostrander, Leland, Toivonen and Kvidera all earned All-Tournament team honors for finishing in the top five. Kvidera has finished in the top five at the NSIC Championships all four years at Augustana, while Leland garnered her third all-tournament team honor and Ostrander her second.

Augustana has now won five conference championships under head coach Peggy Kirby. In addition to the last four NSIC crowns, the Vikings were the NCC Champions in 2007-08.

Augustana will next compete at the NCAA Central Region Tournament on May 5-7 in St. Joseph, Mo.
