Viking Women Seventh, Men 18th in USTFCCCA Preseason Poll

NEW ORLEANS, LA — Augustana men’s and women’s indoor track teams open the season ranked in the top 25 of the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division II National Championship Rankings. The women check debut in seventh while the men check in at No. 18.
Grand Canyon University (Ariz.) opens the season as the favorite on the men’s side after taking home the team title last season. On the women’s side, Grand Valley State looks for its third straight national championship as the preseason favorite.
The rankings are based on computer projections which take into account the top returners from each school and also early season performances. The Augustana women scored 93.69 for seventh place and the men tallied 48.00 for their 18th spot.
The Augustana women are first among Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference schools followed by U-Mary in eighth and Winona State at No. 24. The Viking men are the third-highest ranked team in the NSIC behind Minnesota State in seventh and MSU Moorhead in 12th.
The Vikings are back on the track this weekend at the Minnesota State Open on Saturday, Jan. 12.
