Without the sizzle of a Presidential Campaign, choice for Governor or a hot-button issue, people came to the polls in light numbers for the Sioux Falls municipal election.

Trends have moved that way for elections not involving a Mayoral selection, thus it is not surprising to see only 11 percent of people make it to the polls. If you ask those who help administer the voting process some good signs are afoot.

Pollster Don Cahoon who was stationed at Kuehn Community Center recalled a teaching moment for people who brought their young ones to vote.

“Early this morning we had three families come through with their kids. They showed them what they’re voting for and how to vote. It was very educational. We’ve got to do that for our kids, you know.”

Carol Braa who supervised the Church of the Gate polling place says hopes more youth getting involved in the process by voting and running.

“It’s really nice when the young ones come in for the first time that they are voting. I’m just wondering if it’s going to help that young fella from Roosevelt. Maybe increase some young (voter turnout).”

The men and women at the polls spent a good 12 hours at their jobs on Tuesday. Just try not to contact them too early on Wednesday.
