According to ESPN.com, the short list of potential head coaching candidates for the Minnesota Timberwolves job includes former NBA head coaches Jeff Van Gundy and Tom Thibodeau.

Van Gundy has been out of the game a lot longer than Thibodeau with Thibbs coaching last in Chicago with the Bulls last season.  Both however, are currently employed by ESPN with Van Gundy doing live games and Thibodeau doing in studio work.

In addition to Van Gundy and Thibodeau, other names like Memphis Grizzlies head coach Dave Joerger, former Cavs head coach David Blatt, former Warriors head coach Mark Jackson as well as Portland Trailblazers assistant Nate Tibbetts.

The Timberwolves fired interim head coach Sam Mitchell on April 14th after Mitchell took over for Flip Saunders after his passing last off-season.

The Wolves have two corner stones in Karl Anthony Towns and Andrew Wiggins and a great young complimentary piece in Zach LaVine, so the job is one that many should have interest in.

Now what potential candiates dont have any interest in, is continuing the losing ways of the Minnesota Timberwolves franchise over the last decade.

Since Flip Saunders, Kevin Garnett, Sam Cassell and Latrell Sprewell took the Wolves to the Western Conference Finals in the 2003-2004 season, this team has only been on the decline.

With a great group of young talent and a fresh start on the horizon with a new coach, look for other big names to actually be interested in this job and not just rumored for it.
