The week of May 2nd all the way back in 1998, the #1 song was "Too Close" by Next.

"Too Close" was released in the Fall of 1997 and then went on to be a huge song in 1998.

Next was made up of members, Robert "R.L." Huggar and brothers Terry "T-Low" Brown and Raphael "Tweet" Brown. They were based out of Minneapolis, MN.

"Too Close" was the second single released from Next's debut album, Rated Next.

I was around 11 years old when this song came out and I remember loving it. I now realize this song was very inappropriate for an 11 year old to love. In case you don't remember, here is a sample of the lyrics, "(Step back, you're dancin' kinda close) (I feel a little poke comin' through on you) Now girl, I know you felt it. But boo, you know, I can't help it." And don't forget, "Baby, when we're grindin', I get so excited. Ooh how I like it, I try but I can't fight it. Oh, you're dancin' real close, 'plus it's real, real slow. You know you're makin' it hard for me."

In case you missed it, the song is basically about a guy getting a boner while dancing at the club! And 11 year old me sang this song, out loud, in public, a lot!

The music video should have been a clue that song was very suggestive. Getting down in a public bathroom never looked so good!

According to Wikipedia, "The song reached number one on the US Hot 100 and R&B charts and has gone Platinum making it their biggest and best known hit. In the 1998 US Billboard End-Year chart, the song reached number one."

As for what the group is up to these days, their Wikipedia page states, "In 2016, the group was featured on TV One's "Unsung" series which prompted another reunion for the group after a couple years of being distant. In March 2018, the group premiered their new single "Want It" to UAC radio."
