"That Thing You Do!" the song was featured in That Thing You Do! the movie. The movie starred Tom Hanks, Thomas Everett Scott, Ethan Embry, Liv Tyler, and Steve Zahn.

The movie portrays a music group, The Wonders (or Oneders) in the 1960's making it big with their hit song, "That Thing You Do!"

In reality the song was written by Adam Schlesinger from the band Fountains of Wayne. He submitted the song never expecting it to be picked and then it was! Mike Viola and Adam Schlesinger are featured performers on the song.

"That Thing You Do!" was released to radio and did well, but not quite as well as the fictional song did.

According to Wikipedia, in real life:

...the track still did moderately well in the US, peaking at #41 on the Billboard Hot 100. (It also reached #22 on the Adult Contemporary chart, #18 on the Adult Top 40, and #24 on the Top 40 Mainstream chart.)[2]

The song was a bigger hit outside of the US, reaching #31 in Canada in December 1996,[3] and #22 on the UK Singles Chart in February 1997.[4]

"That Thing You Do!" was also nominated for an Oscar and a Golden Globe, but unfortunately lost both to "You Must Love Me" from Evita performed by Madonna.
