This is the first official week of Summer so what better way to celebrate than with a true Summer jam.

LFO, or Lyte Funky Ones, busted onto the scene in 1999 with Summer Girls. It was somewhat of a nonsensical song that was perfect as a Summer anthem.

Apparently, the song was never meant to be a single, but rather just a mix thrown on a demo tape. A couple guys at a D.C. radio station started playing it and boom! It became a single.

According to Wikipedia:

"Summer Girls" was certified Platinum by RIAA[5] and reached the number-one position on the Billboard Hot Single Sales in 1999. In 2010 Billboard magazine named it the number sixteenth biggest summer song of all-time.[6] However, Matthew Wilkening of AOL Radio ranked the song at #53 on the list of the 100 Worst Songs Ever, stating that "Stream-of-consciousness writing might be better off left to slightly deeper thinkers."[7]

I remember having an argument with my brother about whether or not it was Abercrombie and Fitch or Abercrombie and Fish. Being kids from Iowa, Abercrombie hadn't really gotten to the midwest yet so we had never heard of the store. I won the argument, but looking back, it's pretty silly.

This video is so 1999, it's almost gross. lol. Frosted tips, Caesar haircuts, and midriff for days!

R.I.P. to Rich Cronin. The lead singer of LFO passed away in 2010 from complications due to leukemia.
