Throwback Thursday: My Chemical Romance ‘Teenagers’ [VIDEO]
‘Teenagers’ was released in July of 2007. It was on My Chemical Romance’s third studio album, ‘Black Parade.’ The song was the fourth single from that album.
Lead singer, Gerard Way, says he wrote the song after an experience with a bunch of high schoolers on the subway.
“That was the first time I felt old… I was nervous and I was a target. I felt like I had become a parent figure or part of the problem,” said Way.
The music video opens with an almost shot-for-shot tribute to the first scene of Pink Floyd’s film The Wall. Further links to The Wall are seen when cheerleaders don gas masks similar to those worn by the teenaged and young adult fans in the film.
The video is also strongly reminiscent of the video for “Smells Like Teen Spirit” by grunge rock band Nirvana from their album entitled Nevermind.
