Throwback Thursday – ‘Fat Lip’ by Sum 41 (2001)
"Fat Lip" was the lead single from the Canadian band's album, All Killer No Filler. Sum 41 released the song in April of 2001.
Though the band went on to have mediocre success with other songs such as "In Too Deep" and "What We're All About," "Fat Lip" is definitely their most successful song. It went to #1 on Billboard's U.S. Modern Rock Tracks chart and #66 on Billboard Hot 100 chart.
According to Wikipedia, band member, Deryck Whibley said this about the song:
"The verses are really about what we do: growing up in the suburbs, going to parties and hanging out with our friends, and causing trouble. A lot of people say they relate to it."
So basically it's suburban rap/rock.
Deryck Whibley went on to marry and divorce Avril Lavigne. He also had some health troubles but is back with the band now and doing much better.
