I don't have to, I get to.

Sometimes my mind gets stuck on 'little thoughts.' Sometimes it circles around 'little thoughts' all day long. Like many people, my mind can sometimes circle around 'negative thoughts.'

Yesterday, I  ran into an article in Runners World that caught my attention. It said,

Instead of making a to do list, make an 'I get to' list. It can totally change the way you look at work, home and play.

I gave it some thought. It's kind of true. Life isn't what you 'get to do,' or 'have to do,' it's how you look at it.

I don't have two stories that I 'have to write,' for KIKN.com today, I have two stories that I 'get to write!'  There are very few people in the world that get to do what i get to do today.

This morning, I didn't HAVE to run or work out at the gym, I said to myself, today I get to go to the gym to work out. While at the gym, I mentioned that to a guy and he said, 'hey, your right, you could be in a wheel chair or paralyzed and unable to come work out.'

I don't have to, I get to.

It's pretty empowering. It also brings up a word that many of us forget. Gratitude.

It's pretty easy to 'bitch and moan' about little things. It's also pretty easy to get caught up in a pity party. I HAVE to do this, or I HAVE to do that.I'm guilty. I've done it. A LOT!

Today, and hopefully tomorrow and if I do it right for the rest of the year and the rest of my life, instead of I HAVE to, I'm going to think, I GET to.
