Twenty years ago it was 1996. Then time passed and twenty years later it is 2016. Funny how that works out, right?

Anyways, in compiling this list I was surprised to see how many great movies came out in 1996. There are several of my family's favorites, and some classic films.

Happy Gilmore

It took me a while to appreciate this movie but, it is a lot of fun.

Fargo

The Coen Brothers may miss one in a while, but when they hit it's glorious. This move won Oscars for Best Actress and Original Screenplay. It also made talking like a you're from Minnesota a fad for a while.

The Truth About Cats & Dogs

This move came out at the height of my Janeane Garofalo crush. Oh, who am I kidding, it never faded.

Space Jam

The movie that launched a thousand merchandising tie in's and a nostalgia craze in 2016.

Twister

"We're storm Chases, it's what we do!" OK, so maybe they didn't say that exactly in the move but, still, it's great. The plot doesn't make since, the weather tech has advanced far beyond where it was in 1996 and several of the characters are super annoying (rusty, and the sex therapist). But my family still love to watch it and quote it. The steaks and potatoes that Aunt Meg makes always makes me hungry. And you can't go wrong with Wesley/Dread Pirate Roberts as the bad guy.

Scream

A horror movie so good they made several sequels, parodies, a TV series and Halloween maskes.

Independence Day

"Welcome to Earth!" I saw this twice in the theater and several times a year since. Yes it's silly and some plot stuff doesn't make sense but, I'm not as wound up about the human computer/alien computer interface as other people.
