The New and Not So Improved 'Pete's Dragon'

Disney released a trailer today for their live action remake of Pete's Dragon.

The original was made in 1977 and was a fun musical comedy about a boy and his dragon just wanting a place to call home.

The remake, that I was excited about, looks like a serious and dramatic movie about a boy who was raised in the woods and is seemingly an animal getting brought to civilization. It looks more like Tarzan than Pete's Dragon.

Can you tell I'm not pleased by this trailer? I was so excited after how much I liked Maleficent and Cinderella. Even the new Jungle Book looks pretty good.

And this new Pete's Dragon doesn't seem to be a musical. What? However, I don't think Jungle Book is either. But even in the Jungle Book trailer there was humming of "Bear Necessities" to give a little nod to the animated classic.

And Pete doesn't even have red hair! I guess they make up for it with Bryce Dallas Howard, but still.

The movie will be in theaters August 12th.
