Who would have thought that a pageant that started in 1952 in California as a "bathing beauty" competition, could evolve into an international tradition with a goal of becoming Miss Universe?  The goal-oriented, experienced and intelligent women that have their eye on the crown of Miss Universe have to start with the Miss USA pageant first.

The 2014 Miss USA Pageant will be broadcast live from the Baton Rouge River Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on Sunday, June 8th on NBC at 7pm (CT).  The three-hour show will not only include 51 talented and beautiful women, but also entertainment from Florida Georgia Line, rapper Nelly and Louisiana native Marc Broussard.

Fans will also get the opportunity to save their favorite contestant during the evening gown competition by using Twitter, using #SaveTheQueen along with a keyword that will be on your screen during the live competition.

South Dakota will be represented among the other contestants by 25-year old Brittney Palmer of Brookings, South Dakota.  Brittney is a professional horseback rider that also enjoys hockey, deep-sea fishing and photography.  She is a strong believer in the non-profit organization Horses for the Handicapped and hopes to empower, inspire, and encourage young women to pursue and fulfill their goals.
