Taylor Swift is getting the red out! She shared the briefest snippet of ‘Red,’ the title track of her upcoming album, due out Oct. 22, on ‘Good Morning America’ today (Oct. 1.) The title track is always one of the most exciting on an album, since an artist felt strongly enough to name their record after it.
“I wrote this song about the fact that some things are hard to forget because the emotions involved with them were so intense,” Swift explained about the song’s meaning and tone. “And to me, intense emotion is red.”
Nail, meet head. Intensity is most certainly personified by the color red, so we totally picked up what Swift was putting down with that assessment of the song.
She played a preview of the song, but don’t worry. It’s not Swift raging, screaming, acting like a shrew or smashing away at her guitar to capture the feeling of being “red” with anger. Instead, she channels it in a poetic, melodic way.
The song is a little faster and a little more pulsating than the polished, slick pop of ‘We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together.’ But it is just as catchy.
It’s true that we are only treated to about 20 seconds of the song, but it sounds a little twangier than the other songs we’ve heard, which was a style we thought she was getting away from with this album.’
One thing is for sure. We want to hear more of ‘Red’ the song and ‘Red’ the album.
