SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - A sheriff in southeastern South Dakota says a man who led authorities on a three-county chase before holing up in his grandmother's home is now in custody.

Turner County Sheriff Byron Nogelmeier tells the Argus Leader that the 32-year-old suspect was arrested Monday night at the Marion home. The newspaper reports that SWAT officers shot pepper spray into the home before capturing him.

The man had told officers he was armed, but it wasn't immediately clear if a weapon was found.

A 15-year-old female relative of the suspect was held hostage for several hours, but was released unharmed.

Authorities say the suspect's mother called them Monday morning, saying he was hiding out in his grandmother's house. Deputies had lost track of the man during a pursuit that started Sunday night.
