The Summit League tournament kicks off tomorrow at the Sioux Falls Arena, and three area teams will take the court. Saturday's session has been sold out and the event should provide for an entertaining, and intriguing atmosphere to play in.

The No.1 seed South Dakota State women are the first area team to play on the Arena's new playing surface, as they will play No. 8 seed Oakland at 12 p.m. SDSU was 2-0 against Oakland, defeating the Grizzlies, 64-43, and 83-48. The Jacks are 2-0 in Summit League tournament play against Oakland, winning 79-69 in 2009, and 61-54 in 2011.

The Jacks were 22-7 (overall), and 14-2 (Summit) were the Summit League regular season champions. The women have never lost an Summit League tournament game, winning the event four times, and making the NCAA tournament all four times.

Yesterday, three Jacks were honored with awards. Ashley Eide and Megan Waytashek were named to the Summit League first-team, and Katie Lingle was named Summit League sixth woman of the year.

The winner of the Jacks-Grizzlies match-up plays either Fort Wayne or Western Illinois on Monday at 12 p.m.

In the nightcap, the Jacks and Coyotes men play, but not each other.

The SDSU men are the No. 1 seed, and square off against No. 8 seed IUPUI at 6 p.m. The Jacks are 2-0 against IUPUI on the year, defeating the Jaguars, 80-65, and 82-45 during the regular season.

The Jacks finished the Summit League regular season as co-champions with Western Illinois, and finished with a 22-9, 13-3 record. SDSU is looking to repeat as Summit League tournament champions and go dancing again in the NCAA tournament.

Nate Wolters was named Summit League player of the year for the Jacks.

The winner of SDSU-IUPUI faces off against Oakland or Fort Wayne on Monday at 6 p.m.

Meanwhile, the Coyote men reached the Summit League tournament for the first time are hoping to make some noise as the underdog. They are the No. 7 seed and play Western Illinois at 8:30 p.m. The Coyotes were 10-19, 5-11 in 2012-2013. USD lost both match-ups with Western Illinois during the regular season, losing 73-71, and 61-59 to the Leathernecks. Their last game was a week aga against the Leathernecks, losing 61-59, and it should be another tight game.

Juevol Myles was named to the Summit League All-Newcomer team.

The winner of USD-Western Illinois faces the winner of North Dakota State-Kansas City on Monday at 8:30 p.m.

The No. 3 seed USD women play No. 6 seed North Dakota State on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
