STM’s Duffy Joins Cougars Basketball Program
SIOUX FALLS, SD — University of Sioux Falls head women’s basketball coach Travis Traphagen and his staff have announced the signing of Moira Duffy. The Rapid City native signed her national letter of intent on Thursday and will join the Cougars’ program next fall.
“We are so excited that Moira decided to become part of the USF family,” said Traphagen. “Moira is someone who will help our program the first day she steps on campus.”
While prepping at St. Thomas More High School in Rapid City, Duffy was a standout player on the Cavaliers basketball team, helping guide her team to two state championships in her time with the program. She was honored by being named Second Team All-State and also was put on the All-Tournament Team at the South Dakota State Basketball Tournament in 2014. Duffy was also a finalist for Miss Basketball and for the Rapid City athlete of the year for her performances during her senior season. Duffy was also recognized for her leadership on the team as she was named team captain during her senior season. She also was recognized by her conference as she was a three-time All-Conference basketball player. She also earned the Spirit of Su Award during the 2013-14 season.
“The one thing that sticks out about Moira is her high basketball IQ,” added Traphagen. “She is someone that can play inside and on the perimeter and is probably one of the best post passers that I have seen in a while.”
Duffy also excelled in the classroom in her time at St. Thomas More as she was on the Very High Honor Roll for four years and was a member of the National Honor Society. She also was a nominee for the National Young Leaders Conference and the Governor’s Leadership Luncheon.
