Stevie Nicks is from an era when you actually had to have, you know, talent to become a musical star. So she has little patience for the Nicki-come-latelys of dubious chops -- especially when they mouth off to established singers.

The legendary Fleetwood Mac icon recently weighed in on the epic 'American Idol' battle between judges Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj, saying that if the rainbow-hued pop star had been that disrespectful to her, one of them would've been carried out in a body bag.

Nicks, who coached the 'Idol' contestants during Season 11 and is still considered one of the best mentors the show has ever had, expressed her outrage at Minaj's antics (which purportedly included threatening to shoot Carey) to The Daily, saying:

"How dare this little girl! If I had been Mariah, I would have walked over to Nicki and strangled her to death right there. I would have killed her in front of all those people and had to go to jail for it."

Who needs a gun when you have your bare hands? See, that's old school gangsta rock chick right there.

Ignoring for a moment that the Carey-Minaj feud may have been staged to spark interest in the waning show, we just hope Nicki's smart enough not to take on Nicks in one of her infamous Twitter tirades. Because while Stevie may not be the spring chicken she once was, we still have no doubt she'd emerge from such a fight dusting candy-colored hair from her hands.

UPDATE: Well, this is disappointing. On Wednesday night, Stevie released a statement in which she apologized for her comments, saying they were "very out of character" for her and had come "during a long and exhausting day of interviews." She added, “I feel very protective toward Mariah Carey, who has gone through many difficulties in her life, and I spoke without thinking. I think all artists should be respectful toward one another and that includes me. I am truly sorry."

We still don't think she said anything inappropriate, but as a Grand Dame of Music, she apparently felt the need to be a grown-up and set a good example. Nicki could learn a thing or two about that herself.
