The top high school instrumentalists from across South Dakota are gathered at O’Gorman High School for three days of intensive rehearsal with special guest conductors as part of this year’s All State Band event. This is the first year that O’Gorman has been selected to host this incredible event.

Three days of rehearsals will culminate in a Grand Concert to be given in the Lorang Theatre on Saturday, March 28, at 7:00 PM. This concert is open to the public. Every musical taste will be addressed in the concert’s high-variety repertoire, so there truly is something for everyone.

The All-State Band event encourages high school band students to strive for greatness and achieve a high level of musicianship. Students are selected to the All-State Band through a very rigorous live audition process, and are then seated into two bands: the Lewis Band and the Clark Band. Each band is directed by a prominent conductor in the field of university and professional bands.

This year, the Lewis Band will be conducted by Dr. Richard Mark Heidel, Director of Bands at the University of Iowa; the Clark band will be led by Dr. James M. Bankhead, head of the Music Department at Utah State University.

Everyone is invited and welcomed to attend the Grand Concert on Saturday. Tickets are general admission and can be purchased at the Lorang Theatre box office, which opens at 3pm on the day of the concert.
