The StarCraft 2 team has posted on the battle.net blog with an apology for being late with the paid name change feature. How did they say sorry?

They're doing it in the best way possible by offering the service for free. They said that the small percentage of users who utilized the free name change service they offered previously and the fact that they were working on StarCraft 2: Heart of the Swarm meant that they had to put the Paid Character Name Change feature on the backburner.

So to make up for the long delay, they're now offering free name changes for all player accounts, with the promise of more information about the Paid Character Name Change feature after Heart of the Swarm is released. They're also offering a free name change for players when the new Clans feature is implemented and promises to give players more information at the proper time.

Changing your character name is easy. All you'd have to do is log into Account Management, choose your StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty license, and a "Character Name Change" button will appear near the bottom. Once you click on the button, you'll initiate and then confirm your request. You can then log in to the game, where you'll be prompted to give your character a new name.

Check out the whole blog post here and watch out for Heart of the Swarm when it drops on March 12th, 2013.
