Fresh from its premiere this morning on Good Morning America, here it is: The new Rogue One: A Star Wars Story trailer. Gareth Edwards directs this prequel (or standalone story if the word prequel in conjunction with the phrase Star Wars gives you hives) to the original Star Wars about a plucky band of rebels charged with finding the weakness in the Galactic Empire’s new weapon, the Death Star.

Felicity Jones stars as Jyn Erso, the daughter of the man who was the key to the construction of the Death Star. (That’d be Mads Mikkelsen.) The film also stars Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Alan Tudyk, Riz Ahmed, and Darth Vader as himself.

Here’s the official synopsis:

Jyn Erso leads a group of unlikely heroes to steal the plans to the Death Star, the Empire’s ultimate weapon of destruction.

When all else fails, there’s always hope. Maybe that’s why this trailer has us optimistic for this first standalone Star Wars film. The cast is terrific, and the battles look refreshingly different from the ones we’ve seen in the past, with dogfights shrouded in fog and beach battles.
