WEST ORANGE CITY, NJ -- The Sioux Falls Stampede scored three times on the power play and rolled past the Muskegon Lumberjacks 5-3 Sunday afternoon at Codey Arena in New Jersey at the USHL Atlantic Challenge.

Dennis Kravchenko, Griffen Molino, Dakota Joshua, Peter Hand and C.J. Franklin all scored in the win for the Herd who finished Atlantic Challenge play with a 2-1-0 record. David Jacobson stopped 16 of 17 shots in goal while Shane Starrett played the second half of the game, turning aside 19 of 21.

Sioux Falls went on a 5-on-3 advantage half way through the first period and took advantage as Franklin found Kravchenko open in the high slot and Kravchenko wristed a shot off the left goal post and past Muskegon goaltender Jordan Uhelski to tie the game 1-1 at 10:48. The Stampede grabbed a 2-1 lead minutes later with another power play goal when Molino found the back of the net. Cody Milan sent a pass to Molino inside the left circle and Molino blasted the puck into the back of the net.  Less than two minutes later the Stampede made it 3-1 when Joshua wristed a shot from in front of the net to give the Herd a 3-1 advantage. Sioux Falls took that 3-1 lead into the locker room while outshooting Muskegon 14 to 12.

David Jacobson played through the half way point of the second period in goal for the Herd before Shane Starrett entered between the pipes. Sioux Falls extended their lead 12:13 into the second period when Hand scored on the power play. Off a faceoff, C.J. Franklin sent a pass out to the left point for Hand who slapped a shot through traffic and into the back of the net to make it a 4-1 game. Muskegon dug into that lead late in the period when Cooper Marody scored at 17:45 and Sioux Falls took a 4-2 lead into the locker room. Muskegon outshot the Herd 13-10 in the period.

The Lumberjacks started the third period on the power play and took advantage just 1:07 in when C.J. Smith deflected a shot from Luke Sandler into the back of the net past Starrett to make it a 4-3 game. Both teams continued to exchange power play opportunities, but neither could convert as the period went on. The Lumberjacks pulled their goaltender in the final minute of the period, but Kravchenko hammered the puck off the wall down into the Muskegon zone where Franklin dove and batted the puck into the empty net to seal a 5-3 victory for the Stampede.

Muskegon outshot the Stampede 38 to 32 on the night and went 2-for-5 on the power play while the Stampede finished 3-for-11.

Sioux Falls will continue pre-season play this Wednesday when they travel to Sioux City for the USHL Fall Classic West. The Herd will face Omaha at 10 AM before playing Sioux City on Thursday night at 7 PM.
