If you're looking for the heart of Eastern South Dakota, you'll find it beating strong and healthy in Howard!

Within an hour's drive or so from Sioux Falls, Brookings, Mitchell and Huron, it's true...you can get anywhere from here!

But once you've been to Howard, you probably won't want to leave. After all, who wouldn't want to live in a community where neighbor's know and trust one another and where anyone and everyone can have a real voice in the community.

And Howard isn't exactly the new kid on the block. Established in 1882 (thank you railroad!) and named after Howard Farmer (Farmer? Well, that seems appropriate!), it wasn't long before Howard became the County seat for Miner County. And yes, like so many other of our fine small towns, there were struggles through the years to maintain the population. But how about some good news?

Since 2001 some 200 new jobs have been created in the community and between 1996 and 2008 the city's sales tax revenues increased 123%! Yep, opportunity is alive and well in Howard!

Oh, and if you love Pheasant hunting (and I know you do!), well, not only is Howard in the heart of Eastern South Dakota, it's smack dab in the middle of the best pheasant hunting you'll find!

So come on in, stay a spell and find out why we love Howard, one of South Dakota's best 'Under A Grand'.
