We're still a little more than a week away from kickoff of the college football season, but already there's plenty for local college basketball fans to get excited about.

The South Dakota State women have released their 2013-14 schedule, and for a program that's taken pride in playing top notch opponents, this slate might be the toughest yet.

Of the 30 games on the Jacks' schedule, half will be against teams that played in the postseason last season - including seven against fellow NCAA Tournament qualifiers — and a pair of #1 seeds.

SDSU opens the season November 8th at Brigham Young (WNIT last season), followed by a November 12th match-up at Creighton.

The Jackrabbits’ home opener is November 15th Georgetown comes to Frost Arena. Also on that homestand: Northern Iowa (WNIT last season), November 17th and Pepperdine, November 21st.

Head coach Aaron Johnston's team travels to Mexico over Thanksgiving to play three games in the Puerto Vallarta Hardwood Tournament of Hope. There, SDSU will play TCU, Stanford (#1 seed in NCAA Tournament last season), and Florida Gulf Coast (WNIT last season).

December features four match-ups with NCAA Tournament qualifiers from last season:  December 7th at Wisconsin-Green Bay, and December 11th and 15th against Penn State and Central Michigan.

The final non-conference game comes January 2nd at Notre Dame.  The Fighting Irish were a #1 seed and Final Four team in the NCAA last season.

Summit League play begins January 9th, when the Jackrabbits host league runner-up  IUPUI (WNIT last season).

That game will mark the first of 14 Summit League contests, which includes a Jan. 11 match-up with Fort Wayne to close out the first league homestand of the season.

SDSU and USD meet for the first time since last season's Summit League championship game February 2nd in Brookings.  The two teams play in Vermillion March 1st.

The Jackrabbits are the defending Summit League regular season and tournament champions, advancing to the NCAA Tournament for the last  five seasons.
