Lt. Governor Matt Michels and Secretary of State Jason Gant have won elections in National Associations.

Lt. Gov. Michels has been re-elected to serve in a leadership position in the National Lt. Governors Association(NLGA). Sect. of State Gant was elected as Treasurer of the National Association of Secretaries of State(NASS).

According to the NLGA website, the organization is bi-partisan and promotes regional collaborations and problem solving. It has been in existence for nearly 50 years.   For more info:   www.nlga.us

Secretary Gant can become President of the National Association in 2015, unless he loses the nomination at the State Republican Party Convention next summer, or he loses the general election in Nov 2014.

It is not unusual for South Dakota elected officials, either elected locally, or statewide, to be involved in national organizations. It is unusual for them to be selected to serve in leadership positions, because South Dakota has such a small population and is mostly rural.
