Think you have what it takes to become a member of the South Dakota Highway Patrol? Here's your chance to find out.

The South Dakota Department of Public Safety is taking apps into July of 2016, from candidates hoping to become new members of the South Dakota Highway Patrol.

The state is looking to bring on 15 to 20 new recruits during this hiring cycle.

If you're not already certified as a law enforcement officer in South Dakota or a different state, recruits will be required to attend a training academy in Pierre, along with taking additional training courses.

The whole process to become a State Trooper in South Dakota takes roughly one year from application to graduation.

The Highway Patrol's selection process and training program are quite extensive, but necessary to find and acquire the absolute best male and female candidates possible, that according to Col. Craig Price, superintendent of the South Dakota Highway Patrol.
