Out of South Dakota's nearly 200 Highway Patrol Officers, only 7 are female - and the state is looking to change that with a series of summer seminars. The programs hope to boost the number of female troopers across the state.

Part of the seminars will let potential applicant know that it doesn't have to be male dominant profession and some people, in times of crisis, feel more comfortable speaking to a woman officer on the scene, according to Highway Patrol Captain, Alan Welsh.

According to the South Dakota Highway Patrol, they will be offering a $3,000 bonus to current certified law enforcement officers.

The first seminar will be held Monday, July 27th, at the South Behavioral Health in Sioux Falls.
