South Dakota Governor Daugaard should veto the teen sub-minimum wage bill for two reasons.

First: The voters approved the raising of the minimum wage in November 2014. They did NOT include a lower wage for younger workers. The Legislature and the Governor should not substitute their wishes over the expressed vote of the people, especially before we know the impact of the law.

Second: This appears to be a further separation of the haves from the have-nots.  Wages in our state are already low. Creating a subset of low wages for teens sends a message to all workers: "Your work efforts are not appreciated."

Another attempt to insert legislative will in place of the citizen enacted law failed on the House Floor.

If this bill becomes law, will the Legislature attempt to further ignore the definitive vote of the people, next year?
