Family members say Watertown native and American artist popular for painting outdoor themes and wildlife, Terry Redlin died on Monday April 25, 2016.

According to Julie Ranum, Executive Director of the Redlin Art Center in Watertown, Redlin has lived in a local care facility after a nine year struggle with dementia.  He is survived by his wife who remains in the Watertown area along with three children who call Watertown home for portions of the year.

Redlin was named as America’s most popular artist in annual gallery surveys conducted by US Art Magazine for 8 consecutive years.

Ranum says the Redlin Art Center was a gift to the community and the State of South Dakota in gratitude for an art scholarship he received in his youth.  The center will continue to honor and share his gifting and talents.

Redlin was born and raised in Watertown.  He earned a degree from the St. Paul School of Associated Arts and spent 25 years working as a commercial artist before taking a leap into creating his own work as a self employed artist.
