SYTYCD has finally gotten down to the top 20 and had it's first live performance show last night.

I'm still not sure how I feel about this whole street vs. stage theme this year. I guess I'll have to wait and see what happens. I'll miss the all-stars that they've brought back in the previous seasons.

However, the group numbers that ended the show last night were bonkers. The first show always allows the dancers to dance in their styles so the earlier performances of duos and small groups were all good, don't get me wrong. Everyone is impressive. But something was elevated in the group performances at the end.

Team Stage went first with a Broadway number that was full of everything. Of course, my favorite was the tap section! Only one tapper, Gaby, made it to the live shows this year so I'm rooting for her obviously. There were also some cool tricks with a cane. Note the part when they bounce the cane on the ground and it comes right back to them. So cool!

Then it was Team Street's turn. Obviously, it is a totally different style, but just as awesome. I think my favorite part is around the 1:20 mark where one dancer is on the floor and the other dancer leans over them and lifts the dancer on the floor up with their leg. I don't know if that explanation even made sense, but it's such a crazy transition I don't know how to explain it. Just watch for yourself.

It's shaping up to be a crazy season!
