The hot-shooting Iowa Energy put together the right combination down the stretch. That led to a home triumph 122-112 over the Sioux Falls Skyforce on Friday night at Wells Fargo Arena.

For the Skyforce it’s their sixth loss in their last eight games. The Energy (17-17) maintained the scoreboard advantage for much of the game including a 16-point bulge in the second quarter.

By the fourth stanza, the two teams were tightly bunched and neither team had more than a possession of separation until Iowa led by five with three and a half minutes left. Sioux Falls (19-17) tried to extend the game by fouling in the final minute, but the Energy made their free throws to compose the final margin.

Iowa’s offense was clicking very well with the evidence shown by their 60 percent shooting. Forward Willie Reed who just joined Iowa via a trade from Grand Rapids would be the poster child for that proficiency hitting 15-16 from the floor and 31 points. Kalin Lucas added 22.

For the ‘Force, big man Byron Mullens tried to match Reed and got close with 29 points by sinking seven from downtown. Seven threes from a seven-footer? See more below. Andre Dawkins contributed 21 tallies with Scotty Hopson adding 17.

The two teams split the season series with each team winning three of the contests. Sioux Falls will play next at Fort Wayne on Sunday while Iowa plays Saturday night in Erie against the BayHawks.
