From knee rehab to the NBA playoffs to a Sioux Falls return describes the Briante Weber experience in short. Leading a new Skyforce group will be part of his new ascent back to the Association.

Feeling blessed would be one way to understand how Weber processed his call-up to Memphis where he was asked to start for an injury-plagued team.

“I wasn’t expecting to get that call-up, because I was still raw without a lot of game time (at the pro level). I just played basketball and leaned on my coaches to do the right things as a point guard.”

Miami soon came calling to add Weber for the playoff run, but was one of the Heat’s final roster cuts at the end of preseason. Weber rejoins the Skyforce knowing there is a pathway back to the NBA.

“Not knocking on being down here, this isn’t the ultimate goal to be in the D-League. At the same time you come down here with the right mindset and the right people around you, it ends up that you make somebody else better as well as yourself.”

Weber needs to look no further than three teammates from last year in DeAndre Liggins, Jarnell Stokes and Rodney McGruder along with his own NBA experience to return to the NBA.

“I’m here to do whatever the Skyforce ask of me and continue to play my style of basketball. Eventually, the right people will call on me and I’ll be ready.”
