As the season winds down, each game holds its own importance. The Sioux Falls Skyforce broke open a close game to rumble past the Idaho Stampede 127-98 Friday night in Boise.

For the first 30 minutes each team traded blows with the other locked in a taut battle. The last 18 minutes were all Skyforce.

Sioux Falls (27-19) used the last quarter and a half to showcase this team’s capability with a 56-28 barrage. Defensive pressure inside and outside coupled with hot shooting catapulted the Skyforce into the catbird seat.

Idaho (8-38) has endured a difficult season to say the least. The disparity in the third quarter might be a microcosm of the Stampede’s troubles. Idaho shooting 4-19 compared to 12-18 for Sioux Falls tells you all you need to know.

In case you’d like further details and of course video highlights, Andre Dawkins poured in 28 points with 5 assists. Scotty Hopson finished with 20 points while Shawn Jones (18 points, 11 rebounds) and Khem Birch (12 points, 13 boards) were the double-double machines.

Jared Cunningham led Idaho’s effort with 24 points leading four players in double figures. Jerrelle Benimon with 18 points plus 8 rebounds and Brandon Fields accumulated 17 points plus 8 assists.

The same two teams will play again at CenturyLink Arena Saturday night. With that contest, Idaho will wrap up their home schedule for the season.
