Sioux Falls to Add a Musical Themed Playground in Falls Park West
There's a construction project in the works that when completed will have Falls Park West alive with the sound of music.
KDLT News is reporting that very soon construction will begin on what's being called the "Levitt Shell at Falls Park West."
The new musical themed venue in Falls Park West will play host to nearly 50 bands throughout the course of the summer months in the Sioux Empire.
According to Joe Batcheller, President of Downtown Sioux Falls, Inc. the project will add more “family-friendly” amenities to the downtown area, and along with the new band shell, encourage more residential development in the area.
Batcheller told KDLT News “What I’ve envisioned is this music themed playground, something very unique to Sioux Falls, unique to the rest of the country." A "musical playspace" as Batcheller puts it.
His vision also includes adding things like an oversized guitar or harmonica that kids that could play on. All designed to help provide opportunities for kids to engage their imagination while visiting the musical atmosphere of the new park located next to the Levitt.
The project does comes with somewhat of hefty price tag attached. Once finished, Batcheller estimates the cost of the Levitt Shell at Falls Park West to be near the tune of over $100,000!
There's an additional plan in place to help fund the project the city has entered the Levitt Shell into Gannett’s A Community Thrives contest.
If the Fall Park West project gets enough votes throughout the contest period, the playground could receive a grant of $50,000 or $100,000.
Voting for the Community Thrives Grant takes place online. People can cast one vote per day until May 12, 2017. The grantees will be notified of the results on or around May 28, 2017.
Residents are encouraged to vote. Batcheller says, receiving this grant will go a long way in helping the city of Sioux Falls achieve its fundraising goal.
