Sioux Falls Teens Shoot at Unmarked Police Car
A Sioux Falls Police officer who was in an unmarked vehicle was fired upon early Wednesday, but police say they don't know if the shooter knew he was targeting a police officer.
Information Officer Sam Clemens says the officer was in the unmarked car, in uniform, near West 41st Street and South Cathy Avenue around 12:30 a.m. to work a saturation patrol:
Clemens says the driver, a 17-year-old from Sioux Falls, stayed with the vehicle, and police learned the long gun was a BB-gun. He was arrested on charges of aggravated assault, reckless driving, no headlights, curfew violation, no seatbelt and tobacco possession.
The passenger, also a 17-year-old from Sioux Falls, was eventually found in the backyard of a home in the 3600 block of South Greenwood Avenue. He was charged with aggravated assault, discharge of a weapon inside city limits, resisting arrest, curfew violation and no seatbelt.
Clemens says other reports of broken windows on vehicles have been received, but police don't know yet how many vehicles might be involved.
